The Plastic Surgery EP was recorded at Hyde Street Studios in the heart of the Tenderloin neighborhood in SF. If you’ve never been to that part of town, it’s uh...kinda rough. But we were bunkered in surrounded by vintage gear that had us all drooling.
Hyde Street Studios is one of those historic places where you can feel the afterglow of decades of creativity. Though it’s had a couple different names, we recorded inside the same walls as legends like The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, CCR, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, and so many more.
We cranked out Plastic Surgery in 2 days of recording and 2 days of mixing. But we were working hard on the songs for months prior.
The artwork features a pelican named George. This was a commissioned artwork by a guy on Instagram called Restless Ghost. It’s mostly made up of organic materials and it is set in a resin disc. But as you can see, bits of ocean plastic are filling up the belly. It goes with our song Litter Bug, and also inspired our title.
